月に二度ほど日帰りで温泉に行く。西武秩父駅前温泉祭の湯である。所要時間は２時間ほどで、乗り換えは２回でいい。お湯に入る前に近くにある秩父神社にお参りする。名工・左甚五郎作の「子育ての虎」、「つなぎの龍」をはじめとする絢爛豪華な彫刻によって飾られている神社である。今回は神社の参道にレトロな食堂を見つけたので入ってみた。昭和にタイムスリップしたような外観で、店名はこの外観とは似合わない「パリー」と外壁に張り付けられている（写真）。後でネットで調べてみると、建物は昭和2年の建築で、文化庁の登録有形文化財に指定されているという。メニューは、洋食、中華、丼物、麵類とバラエティー豊富で、名物はオムレツだとある。名物がオムレツとは知らなかったのでかつ丼を食べたが、確かに昭和レトロノの味であり、美味しかった。しかし、この次秩父に行った時はこのレトロ食堂「パリー」でオムレツを食べることにする。
A small restaurant full of Showa retro feeling
I go to the hot springs twice a month for a day trip. It is Seibu Chichibu station square hot spring "Matsuri no Yu". It takes about 2 hours and you only have to change trains twice. Before entering the hot water, visit the nearby Chichibu Shrine. The shrine is adorned with gorgeous carvings such as the "Child-raising Tiger" and "Tsunagi-no-Dragon" by master craftsman Hidari Jingoro. This time, I found a retro small restaurant on the approach to the shrine, so I went in. The exterior looks like a time slip to the Showa era, and the name of the store, "Paris," is attached to the outer wall (photo). When I looked it up later on the internet, I learned that the building was built in 1927 and has been designated as a registered tangible cultural property by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The menu has a wide variety of Western food, Chinese food, rice bowls, and noodles, and the specialty is the omelet. I didn't know that omelets were the specialty, so I ate katsudon, but it certainly had the taste of Showa Retrono and was delicious. However, when I go to Chichibu next time, I will eat an omelet at this retro restaurant "Paris".
